France is expanding €1 house initiatives across several rural departments to bring life back to depopulating villages. Pilot towns are offering symbolic-price homes that require full renovation and a clear plan to occupy the property.
How It Works
Municipalities select abandoned or uninhabitable houses and offer them for €1 with a renovation commitment. Buyers submit an application, proof of funds, and a renovation roadmap (usually 24–36 months).
Where To Look
Hauts-de-France, Grand Est, and parts of Occitanie have published calls for interest. Expect traditional stone houses, barns, and village homes close to vineyards and rolling fields.
Our guide lists active towns, application links, and grant options for eco-renovations available through Anah and regional programs.
